Tribute Slings

triobute sling heading

Bubba Moe Baby Slings is raising valuable funds for research to help combat these and other cancers. We will dedicate each "Limited Edition Tribute Sling" print to someone who has either triumphed over or succumbed to cancer.

When purchasing a Tribute Sling, 100% of the profits will be going directly to ABCR, Australia Breast Cancer Research.

Each of our Tribute Slings honours an individual who has had to don the battle armour in a cruel, involuntary war against either breast or prostate cancer. "Suze's Rose" is named in honour of my beloved aunt Suze Henriett, a renowned European artist and "eco" activist who now lives a full and happy life in Torsby, Sweden. Her journey some years ago was not unique.Aas with many cancer victims, during the height of their battle they are isolated, with only their truly beloved around for support. Although early detection was her saviour, it was not so for my dad, who lost his battle against cancer in October 2001.

A lot of men are really stubborn when it comes to their body and my dad was no exception, so for him a sling named Opa's Stripe (Dutch for grandfather) is dedicated to him. Dad loved brown and yellow, everything he painted had a strong presence of these two colours, so when I was shown this stripe, I knew I had to name it for him. Very much like his sister, dad was a Trojan for peoples' rights. I never knew a day when he wouldn't go out of his way to help someone, do something to help others, help make their wish come true. He devoted his life to putting other peoples' needs before his own. Their smile was his smile.

Dad was my hero, Suze my inspiration.

Out there is also someone's hero, someone's inspiration, a loved one battling cancer. The impact it has on families is insurmountable. There are so many unsung heroes that should have a chance for their story to be told.

The Bubba Moe Tribute Sling is our way of helping people achieve acknowledgement, by stating "Hey world, this was/is my loved one, the most wonderful person in the world, my hero! A real person who mattered in my world. They had cancer, this is their story".

Katie's story will accompany the sling

Each person nominated will have an opportunity to tell their story with a print that will be uniquely and solely theirs. In collaboration with each person or family, a print will be chosen that would best identify the personality of their loved ones. Suze's Rose was dedicated to her as the print was almost identical to the lino cut stamp print I watched her do with absolute fascination in the early 80's. Seeing this print reminded me of her so much that I had to find a quiet corner in our factory to shed a tear, clutching the fabric to my chest. From out of that moment, Tribute Slings was born.

Each sling will have an identifiable logo, Bubba Moe Tribute, separating it from all the other slings in our range, and only available for sale through the Bubba Moe website.

Each sling will have the accompanying story of the person to whom the sling is attributed.

Research shows that early detection is paramount to increasing the survival rate. Research's achievement to date has benefitted in the enhanced medical treatment and has saved the lives of countless thousands worldwide.

The Information below was offered to Bubba Moe from the ABCRF.

RESEARCH BY DR. SALLY STEPHENSON - indentifying a protein that is found on the outside of the breast cancer cells, but not normal cells. This protein is particularly important as it assists cancer cells to survive and grow. As the protein is only present on cancer cells, the next stage of Dr Stephenson research has been to develop a treatment for this cancer specific protein. In the results so far, this treatment has been successful in stopping breast cancer growing with no ill-effect on the non-cancerous cells. It could mean the precise treatment of cancer without the non-specific side-effects usually associated with cancer therapies like chemotherapy.

RESEARCH BY DR. MICHAEL RAYNOR - working to diagnose breast cancer at an earlier stage and to indentify patients with a high risk of relapse. patients with early stage breast cancer often have their tumour surgicallly removed and are considered to be in remission. Many patients do not often receive either chemo or radiation therapy following surgery. Unfortunately many can often suffer relapses of the disease. Dr Raynor's research looks for particular tumours that have escaped from tumour and are spreading through the blood. This existing research means that if there are any cancer cells floating around in the blood, they can be isolated and tested. Research could not have achieved such valuable results this far without generous donations.

Research to me means just one word - HOPE!
